Me and my family were lucky to see kd lang live, round about the time Ingénue was released, at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. We’d already became fans of her work when Channel 4 broadcast a concert of hers, so we leapt at the chance to see her live. At one point, she announced she was going to do a cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying”, and I remember someone behind me going “Oh NO!!!”, but by the end of that song, the whole audience was giving her a standing ovation.

I saw her about the same time. Did she put on a giant wig with an elastic chin strap before performing Miss Chatelaine, while commenting on the convenience of a strap- on?

When I saw her, the power of her voice was amazing. I was sure she’d blow out her voice before the end of the concert. But damn, it just got more powerful as the night went on.
