Define free? Can an 85 year-old who has long since lost their birth certificate get one for free, or do they have to pay to get another copy of that?

I don’t recall, Like you just had to show you lived in the State or something.
It passed muster with the SCOTUS. If you couldn’t afford it, it was free.
I’ll have to go read up on it…
Interesting though..During arguments the whole 85 year old woman without ID was brought up..She was a nun up north that never got an ID. Apparently she was cashing her nun checks for 70 years without a bank account or ID.
