I live in a state that only recently in its history abandoned dubbing such “Lee-Jackson-King Day” out of “heritage.” And that still remains a sore spot with a lot of my fellow white Virginians who think that it somehow detracts from said “heritage” that we do not celebrate two white traitors annually.
Christ, I’d completely forgotten about that. I never heard about that bullshit until well into adulthood, having lived in the Northeast all of my life.
I can only imagine how galling it is to have your state government tell you “We are going to celebrate a man who fought to make sure your ancestors remained slaves.”
