re: #201 Nojay UK

There’s a case to be made that internet connectivity is a human right, like postal service or free-at-point-of-use health care, a necessity in today’s civilised world. That’s something else but it shouldn’t be thought that providing it to everyone would be easy or cheap.

It’s particularly challenging on this side of the pond, where the people most affected by lack of access to quality tubeage are also the ones that are hardest to reach - the vast expanse of America’s rural areas make it very expensive to provide high-availability, high-quality service. The same logistical challenges apply to any other service, such as the aforementioned health care. Infrastructure development for these sorts of projects should be an immediate priority, but who wants to pay taxes for more/better roads and national transportation mechanisms?
