Yup, the disappointment of a fouled up meal will often echo through the ages. And an empty can of salty water would definitely qualify.

I didn’t mind most of the c-rations. The only one I really didn’t like was pork slices. Thick slabs of salty, fat infused gristle. Perfect for a hot sweaty day when one was already feeling a bit dehydrated. Just about anything else, though, worked for me.

Of course, growing up, I sat at the end of the table, after my two other brothers. And I knew that whatever made it down to me was not going to last for seconds servings.
