The religious right has convinced the majority of Christians that being a Republican is a core part of Christianity. It’s literally an article of faith in many churches these days. It wasn’t always this way, but Republicans have been pushing the pro-life, pro-religious-liberty, pro-veiled-racism-and-sexism angles for literally decades. They’ve brainwashed my parents’ entire generation into believing that Republicans are the Party of God, and there is literally nothing you can say or do to convince them otherwise, because the religious leaders of the day tell them so.

Existing law could shut down the political houses of superstition if the IRS had both the will and, perhaps more importantly, enough people to enforce those laws. It is yet another reason for the GOP’s long running commitment to sabotaging the IRS.
