I was absolutely shocked when one of the medications I used to take in the past - a generic medicine, no less, and one on the WHO List of Essential Medicines, shot up 3 orders of magnitude.

If I were running for office, one of my campaign planks would be to have DHHS/NIH buy up all of the old drug plants here in the US that are mothballed and start making all of the WHO Essential Medicines at cost, and provide them to every doctor, hospital and clinic (especially the VA) from all of the FDA penalties and any amounts recovered for prosecuting Medicare fraud.
