Good lord, if you rely on me for cultural heritage …well, I can quote the Star Wars films and will be happy to argue Picard over Kirk.
Pop music has such a short lifespan, anyway. Herb Alpert had his heyday in the late ’60s and early ’70s. He created a distinctive style of music that was sort of easy listening, sort of jazzy, sort of mariachi, and a perfect counterpoint to that noisy music the kids were listening to.
And despite the name of his band, not one of them was from Mexico — mostly session musicians from the LA area.
Movies have a longer lifespan, because the classic ones every generation can enjoy. Not so pop music. It gets dated really quick.
