re: #180 No Depression

I think the charitable interpretation is that he thinks the Russia story is more esoteric and less applicable to peopleā€™s everyday lives than issues like the economy, healthcare, etc. Thatā€™s the motivation Iā€™ll assume he has until I see evidence of a more sinister motive.

Last evening at a dinner with friends, a woman who isnā€™t as invested in political details was describing the Russian investigation as a worthless distraction and was more concerned about the lack of civility between the parties and inability of elected officials to work together for the betterment of this country. She did not support Trump but she said that people voted for him because they were tired of the stalemate in Washington and thought that a businessman would be more effective in getting both sides together.

She was highly critical of the Democrats for not proposing an alternative health plan and not offering to get together to work with Republicans behind closed doors to craft a working plan. She thought the Democrats were as bad as the GOP in continuing the conflict. The rest of the party did not share her views and the discussion became very heated.

My experience is that most people live outside the political realm and see little and understand less of the current dynamics of politics.
