Israel’s purposes are not served by maximizing reports of civilian casualties, though, which is why I chose the wording I did. Regardless of whether you believe they are performing genocide or not, revealing that fact to the world by publishing headlines of hundreds or thousands of civilians killed does not serve their interests.

let’s do some genocide math

In 3 years, the Nazis killed 80% of the Jews in mainland Europe, after having first declared publicly they intended to kill them all. Unprovoked.

in 1994 Rwanda, it took 90 days for the Hutus to kill 70% of the Tutsis, after having first declared publicly they intended to kill them all. Unprovoked.

In Gaza, if the killings continue at the current pace (assuming we accept Hamas’ casualty numbers and pretend all the dead were civilians), it would take 10 years to kill 25% of the Palestinians. After Hamas dramatically, deliberately, provoked this war.

If Israel wanted to do a genocide, they have the means. Math tells me that’s not what this is. There may be, probably are, war crimes, but this is not by any stretch a genocide.
