In some ways, my own discipline of software development kind of encourages the same thing. Lucrative contracts are awarded to young hotshot programmers who can code circles around older, seasoned developers. The burst of the dot-com bubble did, however, have a net positive benefit in that sphere by curbing those corporate impulses in favor of hiring people who actually knew what the hell they were doing.

Current evidence argues that lesson may have been forgotten in some places.

At least based on some of the stories I hear.
