I remember seeing that film with a close friend of mine - after the first 15 minutes or so, she leaned over and whispered to me, “Wake me up when the ship’s about to hit the iceberg” then she took a nap.
I went across the street, grabbed a cup of coffee, had a couple smokes, poked my head into the theater, had another cup of coffee and a couple ciggies, came back in, and five minutes later, I nudged her awake.
From an FX point of view, Titanic is a masterpiece and genuinely brilliant, especially the ship as she’s slowly sinking and I give James Cameron full credit for that, along with the FX team. But for me, that’s about it.
