Moreover, dictionaries don’t “live” in a vacuum. They are - or at least are supposed to be - a representation of how the words are actually used in real life (incl. professional/technical terms). There is this famous example of how one of the dictionary defs of evolution doesn’t correspond to the scientific def. But this doesn’t mean that those definitions are wrong - people do really talk about “evolution” in a non-scientific sense all the time. The mistake lies only in applying the everyday meaning to science. DF makes a similar (if a bit reverse) mistake, namely he loads the “dry” term “victim” with connotations that were not meant to be there in context.
