The HR person flatly denied that there was any investigation, whatever that means.

It means there was some agreement between the employer and the employee and they felt no investigation was needed.

If I were innocent? I would have wanted a full-fledged investigation. Period.

I really cannot imagine that an employee would give up the security of a job for a cash settlement that is NOT going to provide for the future. Seriously, weird.
