Been toying with the following;

Given the preceding, it makes sense to reduce the number of cops who carry firearms in the line of duty. Reserve firearms for SWAT/ESU type units to respond to situations. Get cops walking the beat and interacting with the community (they should live in communities where they work would help with the empathy and understanding of the issues/concerns).

This is similar to what several European countries do right now, and the result in far fewer gun deaths at the hands of cops.

Those other countries don’t have a populace armed with approximately 300 million guns. Unless that is addressed I can’t see sending police out unarmed or poorly armed.
