Gov Jindal Signs Law Legalizing “Silencers” for Hunters
Sound suppressors are actually quite common in other countries, most with stricter gun laws than in the US. In the US, To buy a suppressor for hunting, one must have get the purchase approved by the ATF, which means registering the suppressor, paying a $200 transfer tax, and submitting fingerprints.
Believe me, legalizing sound suppressors for hunting isn’t problematic. They are well enough regulated to make strawbuying largely impossible, and any transfer of ownership requires payment of the $200 tax and ATF approval.
