It was tempting to give the guy credit for positioning himself as the most moderate Republican in Washington. Sure, it was a function of being a Republican senator from a deep blue state…but it was SO rare it was refreshing.

Then, of course, he began walking back his formerly reasonable stance on climate change last year.

There is also the fact he is being VERY cagey about his health and his recovery from a serious stroke. There is no doubt he made huge strides, but keeping Mitch McConnell as majority leader is not a compelling reason to send a man back to the Senate who is not up to the task.

Maybe his nasty remark the other night was a function of losing his “filter” post-stroke. The article linked above suggests this is the case, and offers his “bro with no ho” slur of Lindsey Graham as an example. Maybe he is just a bit of a racist and/or asshole.

In any case, he will have a LOT of time to focus on his recovery starting in January.

Sounds right to me. I don’t wish ill on him but he shouldn’t be in the Senate if he’s going to make remarks like that.
