Afaic, the goal of these and other bigoted laws is a return to a post-Reconstruction, two-tiered society. Special rights/small government for ignorant bigots; curtailed, limited rights/police state for everyone in their path. They know they’ll never get the Dred Scott Decision back, but will settle for Plessy vs Ferguson America.

There is that, but some of comments on voter ID laws are confusing race with simple voter suppression. Of course, suppressing the Black vote is effectively suppressing the Dem vote.
