No. Clarence “Gatemouth” Thomas was confirmed on a 52-48 vote. Closest ever.
At this point, given the upcoming elections, I expect 10-15 Republican Senators to vote against Kavanaugh.
I could be completely wrong, of course, but I think at this point he is so toxic to the brand, and so toxic to the structure of the House and Senate, that he is dead meat.
In fact, I don’t think Turtleneck will bring up his vote to the Senate.
McConnell just filed for cloture. Motion to proceed on Friday, full vote on Saturday. It’s happening.
I just filed cloture on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court. There will be plenty of time for Members to review and be briefed on this supplemental material before a Friday cloture vote.

Once cloture is filed it can only be vitiated by unanimous consent, So while you’re not 100% locked in, you’re pretty much there. And at that point it’s out of the leader’s control since any individual senator has the power to object to vitiating & keep you locked in to vote.
