Britney Spears was the thing back in the ’80s. Now, no one under the age of 30 knows who she is, or cares.

Even the over-30s won’t really care after a while. Britney was a made-up star, a creation of a publicity machine more than for inherent skill or talent.

The old movie studios did that sort of thing all the time. There were a lot of “movie stars” whose fame only lasted a few years. Pop music turns them over faster. High fashion even faster than that.
