Son2 blew away his Olympics of the Mind teacher by identifying Moshe Dayan. She wanted to know how an Alabama Goy HS kid would know that. He admitted that it came from our dinner time dirty joke about a rabbi, a parrot, and the good general.
My son was complaining that he wanted everything to useful, utilitarian, in his worldview. I bought him a copy of JS Mill’s essays ;) I don’t think he’s started reading them yet (I especially pointed out Utilitarianism) but I think the seed has been planted. I also hope he’ll read On Liberty as I think he’d find that useful < rimshot >
