Many Blacks segregate themselves today. They self identify as African-Americans. Why not just Americans? Thousands attend Jeremiah Wright’s racist separatist church including for the last 20 years (up until it wasn’t politically expedient last March) the next President. Why doesn’t Obama call himself biracial? Why isn’t the media comfortable calling him biracial? And not just Blacks. Many groups are segregating themselves. Muslims. Hispanics. To a lesser extent, Asians. I hope for the day when we are all simply Americans.

to play the devils advocate? No one had a problem with people walking around for years with the Irish-American or Italian-American shirts and everything else. When I was in Boston I saw a huge convention hall that was Italian-American meeting hall of some kind. My brothers wife’s family always maintained they were Italians first, Americans second although they had all been born here.
