The Werewolves were a joke and were toasted within two months. There wasn’t any spine or staying power in that insurgency. We did not fire all of the Nazi bureaucrats, it was not possible. The high ranking ones and high profile Nazis yes, but most of the country was in the Nazi party - so please don’t pretend that “firing all of the nazis” was at all possible, anymore than reforming Japan without the aid of the former warmongers in the Kaibutsus was.

Okay, I’d agree that it might not be possible to fire all of the low level Baathists, and I agree that we needed to fire the bigwigs. I may be wrong, but I think registration in the Baath Party was mandatory, it was a single-party state after all.

But I still do not think that the former low level Baathists would have been able to manage a democratic democracy. Afterall, Saddam’s regime ran on bribery and terror.
