Well, to be fair - the rest of Europe was, after Hitler and WWII not in the mood to allow the Germans to show anything at all even faintly resembling military prowess.
Add to that the drip-drip-drip of moonbattery from the 1970 in education, all across Europe, and its no wonder.
Oh - and the reunification also had the condition that the East German army would have to be more or less scrapped.

Europe did not and does not want a fighting-fit Germany.
Any sign of that and everybody starts howling - no wonder the Germans are scared of even thinking about shooting at anybody.
Who wouldn’t be - with those nieghbours.

The same thing happened in Japan. For a thousand years, Japan was in a literal constant state of war. Their entire culture was based on it. It is amazing to look at them now.

I think it is natural for many people to want peace. If the USA could stop spending so much money on defense, we would be richer for it. But, this world will not allow us to do that.
