Seriously, that picture with the tear gas canister marked “Made in the USA” is a perfect metaphor for what we have been doing wrong for so long. Our empire is unraveling fast, and frankly, we deserve it.

Well, snark aside there aren’t really any good options. Suppose if we were to only do business with democratic regimes who respect human rights. We’ would have absolutley no relations with any country in the middle east. We’d be accused of strangling Muslim economies and toppling their legitimate indigenous governments. There’s no way to win.
