It’s never an opportune time to lose power, of course, but in the heat, seems to me, is the worst time of all.

When it’s cold, there are things one can do to sort of conserve warmth; when it’s beastly hot, though, there is a practical limit to what one can accomplish before the situation becomes simply unhygenic.
