I was accused of having burglary tools once in my neighborhood in Fairhill Philly.
Had a wrench and hammer behind a fence on Darien and Indiana that I used to turn on a fire hydrant for us and the kids.

Little old lady waved down the cop car. I saw her talking to the cops as I was in the corner store buying a Mt Dew and bag of chips. Had no idea what was going on.
I walked out, and they jumped me from behind the phone booth, grabbed me by the throat, slammed me into the phone booth glass as my bottle smashed on the ground and my chips became pigeon food.

Waved them in front of me and screamed “BURGLARY TOOLS MUTHAFUKKA WE GOT YOU!”
Slammed me into the car, took me to the 25th, and kept me it the 110 degree sweat box just for shits and giggles.
No charges. Just took 3 or so hours out of my life, punched me in the back of the head as I was released and I had to walk 12 blocks back to the corner.
Normal day. Lost my ability to open fire plugs for a while.
Happened all the time.
To this day.
And I’m white.

A buddy of mine had a couple of Philly cops start threatening him for having Jersey plates when they pulled up to a stoplight at the same time. Literally looking to beat him up because apparently at that moment Center City was crime-free.

It’s stuff like this that make me roll my eyes when they talk about how the public is mean to them and they just don’t understand how tough it is being a cop.

Well, don’t fucking randomly beat up people for no reason.

I’m guessing this story took place in the 70s? Feels like this is something that would have happened under Rizzo’s time as mayor.
