I saw a post or interview somewhere where it was said that the key for casting Batman (or Superman) is that shouldn’t be casting the hero-mode — you should be casting for how they will look or act as Bruce Wayne (Clark Kent).

Once they’re in the suit it’s often shots of stunt doubles and standard action genre stuff. How do they come across on the screen when acting as a human? (Or dysfunctional human in Wayne’s case.) Part of the key of the character is that you sympathize with the human and his internal conflicts, otherwise it’s simply a psychotic vigilante with a bunch of neat devices. Just watch “The Punisher” instead. :p

This is why Keaton was my favorite batman. He had just the right amount of crazy to pull off a convincing Bruce Wayne. Pretty much the rest of the Batmen have been bad… Alan West excepted of course ;)
