I had a gnarly experience in the Finger Lakes near Cooperstown a few years back. It was in the fall, pitch-black and extremely dense fog, creeping along at 10 mph, with no other cars out. High-beams were useless. Had to worry just as much about going off the road as something hitting me, but we had to keep going precisely because of the possibility of being rear-ended by someone else.
