No. It is about preventing those food shortages by reducing the population growth in the USA which has a massive average carbon footprint.
A 20% reduction via wind or solar is irrelevant if there is millions of new consumers using the 80% from fossil fuel.
Actually we could power the whole nation from wind alone if we were able to build in the best places. However, I have always said nuclear, solar and wind with smart grids and battery deployment.
