Dura lex, sed lex. That’s the law on the books, and that’s what we should be going by. When it’s challenged and deleted, that will be another situation.

In any case, as Obdi points out, it would seem that legally Obama was born out of wedlock, so this changes the situation considerably. Paradoxically, the only way Obama would lack automatic citizenship if he was born outside of the US is if he had been born inside a legal marriage.

Of course, the convenient part is that he was born to a U.S. citizen in the state of Hawaii.
