I wish I could entertain that hope, but it doesn’t seem realistic. Assaulting and injuring a police officer normally causes the justice system to drop the hammer on the offender. Most likely, the nephew going to get hard time, and the kind of criminal record that makes turning your life around much harder.

Harder, but not impossible. Some people do, even if it seems unlikely.

I’ll choose to hope for the best.
