I dunno about that. If something goes wrong for a pilot, it can get pretty hairy. Lost an uncle I never met - a Thud driver - who decided he didn’t fancy his chances as a rifleman.

I hear you you. Flying is 99% boredom and 1% “Oh, holy shit, this could be really bad.” But I cannot imagine the tension of being an infantry trooper or Marine in the bad days in Iraq and what our young men (and not a few women) are going through now in Afghanistan. That tension convention results in wounds even if you are never hit.

Sherman was right. War is hell.
