Festivus for the rest of us:
My Festivus grievance: The demented reworking of Manhattan’s street grid to satisfy 11 nudniks who go to Community Board meetings.— John Podhoretz (@jpodhoretz) December 23, 2014
Ah, the airing of grievances. If he likes the street grid the way it is, maybe he should go to those community board meetings.
And for the record - the street grid isn’t changing one bit. New streets aren’t being created or destroyed. The traffic patterns are being adjusted to reflect fact that more people are walking and bicycling than ever, and streets are public space for everyone. Car drivers make up the smallest percentage of road users in Manhattan. Buses, bicyclists, and pedestrians are a larger figure, but use less road than the cars.
