I am still convinced that Mr. Musk, like many large “l” Libertarians, is actually opposed to both free speech and freedom of the press. Considering he is richer than God, I can easily imagine him buying Twitter (after trolling about it) so he could break it and shut it down.

That reminds me how Mr. Theil financed the case to bankrupt Gawker, and went after Juanita Jean and Wonkette (a mistake since Wonkette was able to bring on the ACLU, and Gawker is now back).

if so, this is a convoluted and awfully “Bad Machiavelli” way to do it.

he’s not protecting a reputation or constructing some kind of plausible deniability.
he doesn’t need to.
