I find the cropped photo actually is much more powerful in conveying the fear of the commando and results in a much more powerful reaction than the first. If the intention is to support a pro-activist narrative I find it does the opposite.

The same effect could have been created had the photo been cropped from the top. The fear is tangible either way, but with the knife shown, we know why the terror.
