I am amaze.

We had this discussion in a previous thread. No way to measure comparative IQ for groups over decades or centuries, only estimate and extrapolate.

In an anecdotal sense, it could apply: think of all the skills one needed to simply survive back then that have atrophied in our modern society.

And the creteria for an “educated” person were much higher: you were expected to master a classacal language, a modern foreign language, rhetoric, reciting poetry and prose, drawing and sletching skills, etc…

All you need today is two years of high school Spanish and the ability to type with ten fingers.
