I’ve pulled several, some with and some without. Sometimes it was impossible to get the top two tranny to block bolts without pulling both.

On my ‘84 Rabbit, the suggestion was to actually drop the engine and tranny out from under the car, rather than trying to unbolt the engine and bring it from the top.
