This is why it made no sense for the moderates to march in lockstep with Cruz and the Teahadis on this sisyphean reconnoiter of the Valley of Death. They knew from the beginning where they were going, what the odds were, and how much damage it would do to their party.

They helped their real enemies destroy the Party because acting individually in their own best interests was unthinkable if it meant going against their worthless, gutless leadership. This is what clinical insanity looks like.

Worthless leadership combined with the fervent desire to obey produces very strange results.

The only element of rationality in this is that the threat of being primaried from the right is very real to most GOP members of congress.
