This Norman Rockwell fetishization of America complete with childish emotions is just plain creepy.

Especially when one considers that Rockwell’s work for the Saturday Evening Post was just one facet of his artistic output. The man knew how to tackle tough social subjects with a nuance, depth, and complexity that totally escapes those who hold his SEP work as the preferred iconography for a simplistic constructed narrative of that era.

My personal favorite NR painting, “New Kids in the Neighborhood.”
