Heck, there’s an even more blatant example of a land grab. Treaty of Fort Laramie, which ceded most of Western South Dakota to tribal control. What happened next? Well, gold was found, and the tribal claims were ignored as the reservations were made ever smaller and more constrained by force in 1877.

The S.CT. upheld the tribe’s claims, with a monetary finding, plus interest.

The tribes don’t want the money. They want the land, which they claim as theirs.

That would pretty much include the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Rapid City, Badlands NP, etc.
