I used to hunt deer in the Upper Peninsula, where I learned to hate tag alders. The best deer gun up there was a 12 gauge pump (buckshot, slug, buckshot).
Down here in Texas, especially west of town in the Hill Country, you better have a 300-yard rifle. 7.62 NATO or 7.62 x 52r at least.
