The problem though is for century we only got the white guys’ version of the war. It was much easier to kiss and make up for Northern Whites after the war ended than for black Americans.

“Though we may disagree, they are still our brothers” was the viewpoint of the North, hence why it was easier to accept the end of Reconstruction than threaten the future of the Union over an election’s result.
