re: #174 WriterMom

I have another story about how the Canadian system is screwed up.

My mother was delayed and delayed all summer long from getting the proper testing. When they finally did an MRI on her in September, they found a tumor in her pancreas and was admitted to hospital to get ready for surgery. Then her turn was bumped every week for 6 weeks while they did more important cases. She finally got her operation in early November. She was home for the Christmas holidays but was not recovering well.

She’s was readmitted last week. The cancer has spread to her liver and throughout her abdomen. She’s too old & weak for chemo, and there is just too much cancer for surgery or radiation to do any good. We’ve been told she has a matter of weeks left. I’m going out to Vancouver to visit her this weekend, and basically, to say good bye to her.

So while it seems kind of trivial and pointless at this time, I can’t help thinking if my mom had been diagnosed earlier on, she might have had a better chance. Medical care doled out by a government bureaucracy is no way to live.

I would appreciate any prayers from my LGF friends. My mom lived a long good life and is at peace with her situation.
