£50 notes are about as common in circulation as a $100 bill in the USA and generally often used for somewhat shady purposes.

In 1980, I was working at a gas station and noticed the shift from 20s to 50s from people who would fill up a couple times a week to commute to LA. Now 100s are taking their place, making it easier for plastic to take over everywhere, because bills that big still make you old people nervous.
