OK, so even if the minimum wage got raised to $10/hr, a lot of the raise would get eaten up by inflation anyway, right?

$7.25/hr should already be $8.04, since inflation is rather low. However, that’s just treading water, it’s not getting ahead by any means.

A raise to $10.10 would even kick some people off food stamps, Medicaid, etc, depending on the number of dependents and where they were located, although many would still be living in poverty. That’s an extra $2.85/hr, or $114/wk if you got 40 hrs (which really, most don’t). Still, that amount of money would make a big difference in people’s lives. A FT worker would increase his or her’s family income by $6K/yr. That could mean a rent payment for some. A person working for $7.25 FT is making $15,080/yr.
