I’ve been lucky these last several trips. I usually have nothing to declare, and no customs agent has bothered to check. At the Chinese airports, they just wave us through.

I’ve never had bags searched, nothing past the standard questions when you’re going through the passport spots.

My dad has told me about the time he did get searched - but he was a single guy in his 20s coming back from visiting his parents in Turkey in the 70s. (My grandparents were stationed over there at that point.)

It was really nice to be able to arrive at the airport like normal, get our bags, and go find the car. I can’t sleep on planes. This has the predictable result after a 12 hour flight.
