Well, aside from some misperceptions you have about what I’ve been saying— like the Manichean thing— I think (thought I can’t really tell) that I’m disagreeing on whether or not racism has gotten more publicly acceptable recently. This is entirely separate from whether it’s acceptable to do to someone when you can get away with it.

But I still don’t really think I understand what you’re saying. What you’ve written tonight has been a little more impenetrable than your normal stuff, or I’m a little less penetrating.

Nothing I’ve written has been any different than anything else in related threads, so I don’t see the problem you’re having.

The “Manichaeian” comment was in response to something you brought up on your own, in your own words a “crude” north/south difference on racial attitudes. Manichaeian is a nice term. Lazy thinking is a better one.

You have a background in northern CA yourself, where your father was discriminated against. So I see no reason for the disconnect.

When you are that “someone” they do it to, it’s not a separate issue from “when you can get away with it” at all, not on a personal level, and not regarding any other numerical minority, either. That’s abstracted thinking.
