Tesla is a niche product at present. Their cheapest car right now is a $70,000. If their next car is revealed later this year, it will be in the $40-45,000 range. Still high for mass consumption, even if Tesla were able to meet mass consumption demand.
Four locations across NJ isn’t exactly a threat to any other dealership or manufacturer, or even the current dealer-manufacturer relationship even if GM, Toyota, or Honda decide to go the direct sale route themselves.
Tesla hoping for big demand in China, and got many orders, but little follow-through. Elon Musk was in China recently trying to drum up demand.
