I sometimes wonder if the internet is not helping. Basically you can find a spot on the ‘net to support any crazy type of thinking available. Once there, you can get your thoughts put in concrete because there is always someone to support those thoughts and it takes away any of that marginalization.

Add in the poor education of civics, and civility that should come with it, and it becomes harder and harder to find any sort of a national thinking that can keep people in line and on target.

I think you’re right. Troll behavior becomes normalized with a “Meh, he’s a troll”. Arguments (flame wars) used to be discouraged, now they’re daily occurrences and are embraced not, again, marginalized.

It spreads to real life - going so far as having members of opposing parties in government hating each other (YOU LIE!) What used to be normal civil society has now become an unmoderated internet comment section come to life.

I love the internet but this absolutely fecking sucks.
